Adventures in Animation: ‘Sneaks’ Hits Theaters This Weekend
Fans of animated films are in for a treat as “Sneaks,” an exciting new movie featuring renowned comedian Martin Lawrence, premieres in theaters this weekend. This family-friendly adventure showcases a vibrant story revolving around a pair of high-end sneakers.
The Plot: A Sole Searching Quest
In “Sneaks,” Lawrence voices the character JB, who embarks on an entertaining journey to reunite a brother and sister sneaker duo after they are stolen and separated. His passion for sneakers made this project an easy choice for the actor.
“Because I’m in love with sneakers. I’m a sneaker head, and then the cast that they put together for this movie, you know, it’s unmatched. So I had to be involved in this,” said Martin Lawrence.
Returning to Miami
Lawrence, known for his previous roles, last graced Miami in “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.” When asked about his return, he hinted at ongoing projects, including the potential for a fifth installment of the “Bad Boys” franchise.
“I’m sure they’re working on a ‘Bad Boys 5,’ that would be the smart thing to do. I’m working on a TV program. We’re working on a ‘Blue Streak Two,’” he mentioned.
Rico Rodriguez Joins the Sneaker Craze
Joining Lawrence is “Modern Family” star Rico Rodriguez, who voices the character named Ice. Rodriguez brings his unique energy to the role, embracing the sneakerhead culture as part of his character’s persona.
“You know Ice, he’s got ice in his veins. He’s cold like that, it’s fun. To get into character, when I came in to record, I had me on a nice pair of sneakers because, of course, you’re not going to film, I mean, record a movie called ‘Sneaks’ and wear something that doesn’t have heat,” expressed Rodriguez.
A Sneaker Collection to Behold
Rodriguez also shared details about his impressive sneaker collection, showcasing his dedication as a passionate sneakerhead.
“I’m gonna go with 100. I mean, that’s a lot, that’s a lot of sneakers. I tailor-made my closet when we remodeled it to have the sneakers as the forefront, the main event. I’m always ready to buy more. That’s the bad part of collecting and being a sneaker head. I’m always ready for more,” he revealed.
The actor humorously recounted a recent incident involving one of his prized pairs, highlighting the challenges of maintaining a fresh collection.
“We were at the airport, and I was wearing a nice pair of shoes, and something had spilled on them like a drink. And we went to wipe it, but it was like a black napkin and it started to smudge, and I went, ‘Oh my God. Just stop, wait,’” Rodriguez shared.
Don’t Miss ‘Sneaks’
As the anticipation builds, “Sneaks” is set to hop into theaters this Friday. Viewers can expect a heartwarming tale brimming with humor and vibrant animation, making it a must-watch for families and sneaker enthusiasts alike.
