Sean Kingston and His Mother Convicted of Wire Fraud and Theft

Verdict Details

In a significant legal development, singer Sean Kingston, along with his mother Janice Turner, was found guilty of wire fraud and theft by a jury in Fort Lauderdale. The verdict was reached after five days of trial proceedings.

Courtroom Developments

As Kingston exited the courthouse, he refrained from making any statements to the media. Conversely, Turner was immediately taken into custody and transported to the Miami Federal Detention Center, where she will remain until their scheduled sentencing.

Charges and Accusations

Sean Kingston, known as Kisean Anderson, faced multiple charges including wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Prosecutors alleged that the 35-year-old singer was involved in fraudulent activities exceeding $1 million. Turner was implicated in several theft and fraud counts as well.

Investigation Background

Federal authorities launched an investigation that culminated in a raid on Kingston’s rented residence in Southwest Ranches nearly a year prior to the trial. During the raid, officers seized multiple items including a Cadillac Escalade. Following the raid, authorities arrested Turner at the scene, while Kingston was arrested days later in California.

Claims from Ver Ver Entertainment

The charges stemmed from a lawsuit filed by Ver Ver Entertainment, a company claiming that Kingston failed to pay for expensive merchandise. Dennis Card, an attorney representing the company, spoke about the situation, stating, “He is stealing the property itself. He has a standardized script that he gives people, which is that he’s a recording artist, that he’s certainly is, and that he wants to purchase these things, but he never pays for anything. He gets the stuff, and that’s the end of the story. He does it over and over and over.”

Next Steps

Sentencing for both Kingston and Turner is set for July 11, where further legal consequences will be determined.
