ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — A tragic case involving the murder of a Gulfport teenager has revealed a disturbing scenario in which multiple individuals reportedly observed the victim being tortured, yet failed to notify law enforcement.

Steven Gress, 35, and Michelle Brandes, 37, face first-degree murder charges in the death of 19-year-old Miranda Corsette. Prosecutors have indicated their intention to pursue the death penalty.

The investigation began in early March when police received information regarding a potential kidnapping and murder involving Corsette, who was reported missing. According to court records, interviews with witnesses revealed crucial details.

A female resident of the duplex where Corsette was allegedly held reported that she had previously been in a relationship with Gress. She claimed that Gress had a pattern of targeting vulnerable women and exerting control over them.
