Trial of Anthawn Ragan Jr. Begins Over Murder Cases

In Miami, a high-profile trial has commenced for 30-year-old Anthawn Ragan Jr., who stands accused of embarking on a month-long crime spree that culminated in the tragic deaths of a 21-year-old man and a 10-year-old child over a decade ago. The case has garnered significant media attention as opening statements were delivered in court on Monday.
The Charges Against Ragan
Ragan is currently facing the death penalty for the murder of Luis Perez, who was fatally shot in November 2013. According to law enforcement, Ragan waited in a stairwell at a Motel Seven and shot Perez as he descended the stairs. Court proceedings included the presentation of surveillance footage depicting the harrowing moment of the shooting.
Additional Charges Involving Aaron Vu
In addition to the charges related to Perez’s murder, Ragan is also implicated in the shooting of Aaron Vu, a 10-year-old boy. This incident occurred during a robbery at the Hong Kong Nails salon in North Miami, where Ragan and an accomplice allegedly threatened customers and demanded money. Tragically, during the incident, Aaron was killed, and his father, Hai Nam Vu, was shot in the shoulder but survived the attack.
