PORT STREET LUCIE, Fla. (WPBF) — Victoria Rodriguez doesn’t drive a sled.
She doesn’t have a long beard and doesn’t spend time with elves or her eight small reindeer.
But make no mistake, Rodriguez is Santa Claus.
“For me, it makes me feel happy,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez has worked as a mail carrier for the past six years.
For the past year, she has been delivering mail in Port St. Lucie.
Two weeks ago, Rodriguez went to deliver mail to a house along his route and found a letter already in the mailbox.
It was a letter to Santa Claus.
“When you see a letter like that, it means they still believe in Christmas,” Rodriguez said. “The spirit of Christmas is still alive.”
That was the moment Rodriguez decided he wanted to be Santa Claus.
She went out and bought the presents that were on the children’s list.
And on Christmas Eve, she came home with a toy.
Both the children and their parents were surprised to say the least.
“This is the spirit of the holidays,” said Brianna Nielsen, the children’s mother. “It’s really beautiful to see the spirit of the holidays still alive.”
“I thought something like this would never happen again,” said the children’s father, Alex Nielsen. “And I thought that was really cool.”
Rodriguez spent some time watching the children open presents and talk to their parents, but then she had to go.
She had many other packages to deliver.
A postman’s day is very long at this time of year.
But for Rodriguez, they are also very bright people.
“The kids are what keep the magic going,” she said. “Just seeing them smile and be happy makes me happy.”
