Human Trafficking Sting Operation in Miami Leads to Arrests
MIAMI – In a focused law enforcement initiative ahead of the Formula One Miami Grand Prix, three individuals were apprehended on charges related to human trafficking. This operation, named “Operation Grease Monkey,” was conducted from Tuesday to Thursday last week.
Objective of the Operation
The primary aim of the operation was to curb human trafficking activities involving minors. Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle underscored the severity of this issue, stating, “The ugly crime of human trafficking is made even more dreadful when the intended victims are children.” This sentiment highlights the community’s commitment to combat such crimes.
Details of the Arrests
The individuals arrested in this operation are:
- Daniel Xavier Oneil, aged 27
- Tito Xavier Gutierrez, aged 38
- Tangir Jamil Riman, aged 27
Each of these suspects faces multiple charges, including:
- Human trafficking of a minor
- Traveling to meet a minor to engage in unlawful sexual conduct
- Using an electronic device to solicit a parent for consent to sexual conduct with a child
Investigation Process
Investigators revealed that the suspects responded to a prostitution advertisement set up by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force. Throughout their communications, the men were led to believe that two minors, ages 12 and 14, were available for sexual activities in exchange for payment.
Following these exchanges, the suspects met with an undercover detective posing as a facilitator and agreed on specific illicit acts. They were arrested upon attempting to enter a designated hotel room after a monetary exchange.
Conclusion
Importantly, no actual minors were involved in the operation, emphasizing a proactive approach by law enforcement to thwart potential exploitation. This initiative reflects the Miami-Dade law enforcement community’s dedication to preventing such heinous crimes against children.
