KISSIMMEE, Fla. (WSVN) – A pizza delivery in central Florida turned dangerous after the delivery driver allegedly stabbed a pregnant customer over a tip, but the victim is now on her side. sharing their stories.
Melinda Irizarry said she and her boyfriend and their 5-year-old daughter were at a motel in Kissimmee on Sunday, hanging out and having a staycation for her boyfriend’s birthday.
Shortly before midnight, Irizarry said she heard someone banging on the door.
That’s when a man and a woman were forced into the building, according to deputies.
“Once I realized the gravity of the situation, I thought, ‘Oh my God, these people came here to hurt us,'” Irizarry said.
After pointing a gun at Irizarry’s daughter, the man pointed a gun at Irizarry’s boyfriend and forced him into the bathroom, according to the arrest report.
The woman allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Irizarry.
“She wasn’t just upset, it was like she was going crazy,” Irizarry said.
At the hospital, Irizarry realized that her life was not the only one at risk. Doctors told her she was about a month pregnant.
“I started crying and kept saying to my boyfriend, ‘I think I’m going to die,'” she said.
She required more than 200 staples in cuts on her arms, wrists, shoulders, back, abdomen and chest, for a total of 14 puncture wounds.
He also had a punctured lung and severed tendons in his knee, requiring surgery.
“My daughter is watching all of this and it’s heartbreaking,” Irizarry said. “It’s pretty traumatic.”
It wasn’t until much later that Irizarry and detectives realized the woman was allegedly the pizza delivery driver who had become upset over a small tip earlier that night.
Police identified the delivery driver as Brianna Alvero.
Surveillance video implicated Alvero in the crime, and she was arrested on a warrant the next day.
But Irizarry believes it’s not just about money.
“You have money. Your boyfriend told you where there was more money and you didn’t go get it,” she said.
In the end, no amount of money could get Alvero out of his current situation.
“You won’t be able to bond,” the judge told her during a court hearing.
Alvero is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and burglary, all of which are charged under the same statute that covers premeditated murder.
“The state believes this is a crime punishable by life in prison,” the state attorney’s office said.
Deputies say the man who was with Alvero remains missing.
That scares Irizarry.
“I’m scared, and he knows exactly what[my boyfriend]looks like. He stared at the guy for a long time, with a gun to his head. I hope they’re caught soon. They shouldn’t be on the streets,” she said.
Irizarry has a long road ahead of him. She has to learn how to walk again after knee surgery.
