Key West, Florida. (WSVN) – A new production of a classic holiday ballet is putting a twist on tradition in the Florida Keys.
“The Nutcracker Key West” features 16 professional dancers and approximately 200 children and adults.
Tchaikovsky’s timeless tale of a young girl’s visit to the Sugar Plum Fairyland is transformed into a charming island fantasy.
This stage served as an interpretation of Key West’s coral reef environment and rich maritime heritage.
One of the cast members, professional dancer Maurizio Nardi, said he watched the young performers grow as the production took shape.
“In this work, too, it’s a joy to see young children go from not knowing anything to blossoming and actually taking their own path,” he said. “I believe dance is not only about the artistic side, but also has to do with high social skills.”
“The Nutcracker Key West” runs through Dec. 15 at the Tennessee Williams Theatre. Click here for more information.
