(WSVN) – At least 10 people were injured and several others are recovering in the hospital in a mass shooting that rocked South Florida over the Christmas holidays.
One person remains hospitalized after a shooting in downtown Fort Lauderdale, making it the third mass shooting in Fort Lauderdale in 24 hours.
Fort Lauderdale Police Department officers were in the 200 block of 3rd Avenue S.W. in connection with a large group of teens who had gathered in the area to attend an event sponsored by a downtown club. .
A suspect in the crowd then fired a gun, striking a 14-year-old boy.
7News spoke with witness Jared Peter, who said the shooting happened outside near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest 2nd Avenue.
The shooting occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
“I heard a gunshot,” Peter said. “The Portuguese was shot in the arm, but it was later determined that he had been shot in the chest.”
The victim was transported by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The victim’s condition is unknown.
No arrests have been made at this time.
FLPD is asking anyone with information about the suspect or incident to contact them immediately.
On Christmas Day, two shootings occurred less than a mile apart in Fort Lauderdale. Both shootings occurred approximately two hours apart.
The first incident happened around 11:15 a.m. along Northwest Ninth Avenue near Sunrise Boulevard.
According to police, one person was shot and killed.

Then, just before 1 p.m., another shooting occurred near Northwest 8th Avenue and Northwest 10th Terrace.
One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Then, early on Christmas morning, three people were shot to death outside an IHOP in Miramar.
Miramar police swarmed the shopping center on Miramar Parkway and transported the three victims to a nearby hospital.
Two women died from their injuries, while a man remains hospitalized.
“The body is in the hospital under police guard and he is unable to speak at this time,” said Miramar Police Department spokeswoman Janice McIntosh.
Authorities said the shooting was targeted and they were not searching for a suspect.
Over the holidays, there were two horrific shootings in Miami-Dade.
Four people were rushed to the hospital after being shot in southwest Miami-Dade on Christmas night.
For unknown reasons, gunshots rang out outside a home near the 26000 block of Southwest 138th Court just before 6 p.m. on wednesday.
All victims were taken to hospitals in critical but stable condition, Miami-Dade police said.
Police believe the shooter was a woman who knew the victims personally.
On Christmas Eve, there was another mass shooting, this time in Miami Gardens.
Paramedics airlifted a man who had been shot in the head to Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma Center.
Police said Tuesday’s shooting occurred along Northwest 161st Avenue and Northwest 18th Avenue.
