Ry Rivers Embraces His Country Roots in Music

Ry Rivers, the South Florida singer-songwriter, is experiencing a musical renaissance, reconnecting with his true passion: country music. After exploring various genres, he has returned to the authentic sounds that resonate deeply within him. Recently, Deco caught up with him at the House of Hits studio in Miami to delve into his journey and musical inspirations.

Discovering His True Voice

Country music has always been an intrinsic part of Rivers’ identity. He recalled instances during recording sessions where producers advised him to tone down the “twang” in his voice to align more with pop standards. This recurring feedback prompted a moment of reflection.

“And it got to the point where I was like ‘Man, what am I doing? Like this is something I’ve always loved, always felt comfortable with,’” said Rivers.

Realizing that country music was his true calling, Rivers embraced the genre wholeheartedly, blending it with his previous pop influences.

The Essence of Country Music

What draws Rivers to country music is not only its sound but also its storytelling tradition. He emphasizes the genre’s focus on simple chord progressions combined with meaningful lyrics.

“Country music’s all about three chords and the truth and the story and the lyrics and the message in it, so that’s always been a big part of who I am as an artist and as a writer,” he explained.

Unlike many of his Nashville counterparts, Rivers composes his songs on the piano, offering a unique perspective in a genre often dominated by guitarists. His upcoming single, “Kiss A Cowboy,” reflects these roots and is equipped with genuine narratives.

A Personal Touch in Music Videos

The authenticity of Rivers’ music is mirrored in the visuals for “Kiss A Cowboy,” which was filmed on his father’s farm in Okeechobee, Florida. This setting adds a layer of sincerity to his work.

“It’s just super authentic, super honest. I’m very proud of the song. It’s like the most, I feel, like authentic and honest song that I’ve ever written,” Rivers stated.

Community Engagement and Future Performances

Rivers’ connection to his roots extends beyond music. He fondly recalls his childhood experiences in South Florida, where he developed a love for local entertainment, especially “Deco Drive.”

“When I told my mom I was gonna be on Deco Drive, she about had a fit. We grew up watching Deco Drive,” he shared.

Fans can look forward to seeing Ry perform live at the “Kids in Distress” charity event taking place this Saturday at Esplanade Park in Fort Lauderdale, showcasing his commitment to both music and the community.
