Coral Gables Police Bid Farewell to Beloved Mounted Officer Rockaway

In a heartfelt tribute, the Coral Gables Police Department celebrated the retirement of Rockaway, a distinguished member of their Mounted Patrol Unit. This loyal steed concluded his service after more than six years of dedicated patrolling in South Florida.

Rockaway’s Journey with the Coral Gables Police

Officer Ashley Sheran, who adopted Rockaway in 2015, reflected on their partnership, stating, “He’s just really enjoyed the attention of the public, and he’s just been a really great opener, with his silly antics and the different things he learned along the way that really helped us connect with the public.”

Throughout his career, Rockaway participated in numerous community events, including parades and police memorials, proving to be more than just a working horse but a vital connection between the police force and the community.

A New Chapter for Rockaway

Police Chief Edward Hudak announced that Rockaway will transition into a specialized retirement program designed to cater to his every need, ensuring a comfortable and fulfilling life post-service.
