Pompano Beach Fire Rescue Broward Sheriff Delivers Toys In Pompano

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) – First responders continued a tradition of bringing joy to a South Florida community on Christmas Day.

Some families struggled to make Christmas happen this year, but they received support from those whose job it is to protect and serve.

“Merry Christmas!” said the official aboard the fire engine.

On Wednesday, first responders from the Broward Sheriff’s Department and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue expressed their joy to the family.

PBFR’s Cori Christmas said, “It’s a really great experience. It’s great to be able to give back to the community.”

Departments came together for the annual Charity Society Christmas Express. First responders and community volunteers helped make Christmas a reality for families facing hardship in Pompano Beach.

“It’s great to serve the community and give back to kids who don’t have anything for Christmas. It’s really great to be able to do that,” Christmas said.

Trucks loaded with toys drove through different parts of the city. The toys were distributed to children in families that have difficulty buying presents this holiday season.

“What may seem like just a toy to us means a lot to a family,” said Kathy Olivia of the charity Christmas Express. “What brings me joy is seeing the faces of moms, dads and grandparents who shed tears so they can bring smiles to their children’s faces this Christmas.”

Of course, without Santa Claus, Christmas celebrations would not be possible.

Old Man St. Nick did his part to spread holiday joy by riding along with first responders, handing out toys and hugging children.

“If I could hug Santa Claus around the neck, I’d be happy to meet him!” said Pompano Beach resident Regina Turner.

Long-term residents said they were very grateful to the charity society for helping to put smiles on children’s faces this Christmas.

“I really appreciate what they do for the kids every year. Some kids don’t have anything, but we try to help them and save kids,” Turner said. Ta.

This event has been held every Christmas for over 20 years.
