FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) – A teenager was taken to the hospital after being shot in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the third in a series of holiday shootings in Broward within 24 hours. I became the first person to see it.
Fort Lauderdale Police said the boy was on scene around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in connection with an event he was attending downtown.
Witness Jared Peter told 7 News the shooting happened outside near South Wales 2nd Street and Nugent Avenue.
An unknown suspect then fired a gun from the crowd, striking a 14-year-old boy.
They were transported by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
“I heard a gunshot,” Peter said. “The Portuguese was shot in the arm, but it was later determined that he had been shot in the chest.”
As of Thursday morning, no arrests had been made and the incident remains under investigation.
“People were running around all over the place,” Peter said. “It was crazy. He ran straight into the corner right there.”
The gunman is on the run.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
