From the advertisement they looked warm and cozy. Tabletop fire pits were sold online.

Kayla Hominski said the flames caused pain and suffering for her.

Kayla Hominski, who suffered burns at the scene of the fire: “This is life-changing, but my life will be forever changed in so many ways – physically, mentally and emotionally.” ”

Kayla suffered burns over 40% of her body.

Kayla Hominsky: “It all happened so quickly.”

One night, she was using a Corsen fire pit while entertaining friends.

When the flame was about to go out, she asked her husband to reignite it.

Kayla Hominski: “He went to pour the liquid, and as soon as that liquid went into the fire pit, it was like a fireball, like an explosion.”

This explosion is called a flameout. It occurs when someone pours a flammable liquid onto an exposed fire. Flames can shoot more than 15 feet and burn people nearby.

Attorney Stuart Ratzan: “Flame radiation is something that people are not familiar with. It can burn someone to death in a matter of seconds, so this is a really scary situation.”

Stuart Ratzan is representing Kayla in a federal lawsuit against Colsen Fire Pits LLC and two other companies.

According to the complaint, the product “generates a flame that is difficult to see” and “increases the risk of flameout.”

Kayla Hominsky: “I just remember hearing the screams and saying, ‘It’s on fire!'” And I just remember trying to put out the fire, so to speak. In such moments, you are so shocked that you are just trying to survive. ”

Kayla suffered severe burns from head to toe. She spent several weeks in the hospital, enduring two skin graft surgeries and daily bandage changes.

Kayla Hominski: “I had to learn how to walk again. I basically had to relearn how to do most of the physical, everyday things that I don’t really think about. .”

Even now, she struggles with daily life.

Kayla Hominski: “My kids want to go to the haunted house, but there’s an hour long line. I can’t stand in line with them.”

A total of 19 people have claimed that Corsen fire pits caused burns.

We went to the manufacturer in Miami and no one answered the door or the phone.

Their website has been shut down. The company’s website currently has a recall notice urging customers to “stop using” their fire pits and “throw them in the trash.”

Kayla Hominsko: “I’m proud to say I was a part of it.”

Kayla is proud to have helped make the recall happen, but now hopes the lawsuit will help her get back on her feet financially.
