FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) – A man has been arrested after stealing a luxury SUV and crashing it into a fast food restaurant drive-thru window, but authorities say he lost control and tried to flee from officers. did.
Around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, Fort Lauderdale Police received a report of a stolen Rolls Royce from a valet at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort.
However, the joy didn’t last long as officers spotted the vehicle traveling westbound on West Broward Boulevard.
The driver of the stolen Rolls-Royce spotted officers tailgating him and attempted to flee in his vehicle, but ended up crashing into the Checkers at 2701 West Broward Blvd.
The car crashed through the fast food chain’s drive-through window, but fortunately no one inside was injured.
One employee told 7News off-camera that it was a close call, but he’s just glad he was able to jump out in time.
After the accident, the man fled the vehicle and fled on foot.
He was eventually caught and arrested by the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s K9 team.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for tests as a precautionary measure.
7News spoke to the owner of the car who said this just happened.
“As I was sleeping, there was a knock on the door and the valet said your car was leaving,” the owner said. “I’d like to say I’m not shocked at all. It’s a Rolls-Royce and people like to steal things. This fun ride here wasn’t very fun for this guy because he… I’m trapped and my car is broken down. So what are you going to do?”
The vehicle involved in the accident was pulled from the drive-thru and cleaning work is underway.
Police have not released the man’s identity or any further charges.
