J.C. Escarra Joins New York Yankees’ Opening Day Roster
In a significant achievement for both J.C. Escarra and Florida International University (FIU), the former college baseball standout has been named to the New York Yankees’ Opening Day roster, as officially announced on the team’s social media channels Saturday.
A Journey of Perseverance
Escarra, hailing from Hialeah, Florida, played collegiate baseball for FIU from 2014 to 2017. His selection to the Yankees represents an important milestone, making him the 19th player in FIU’s history to reach Major League Baseball.
Impressive Spring Training Performance
Escarra’s ascension to the major leagues came after a remarkable spring training, where he showcased his skills by achieving a batting average of .333, complemented by three home runs and seven runs batted in (RBIs). His consistent performance in the preseason highlights his readiness for the challenges of professional baseball.
Notable College Achievements
During his senior year at FIU, Escarra made a significant impact, leading the Panthers with a .305 batting average alongside 15 home runs and 49 RBIs. His impressive contributions earned him a spot on the All-Conference USA Second Team. Following his collegiate career, Escarra was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 15th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

Escarra is part of an elite group of former FIU players in the professional arena, joining Logan Allen of the Cleveland Guardians and Austin Shenton from the Seattle Mariners, both of whom are also on major league 40-man rosters.
