Heroic Rescue in Seminole County After Fisherman Capsizes
SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – A fishing trip turned life-threatening for Dan Watson when his boat capsized in cold waters, prompting a rapid response from both good Samaritans and local rescue teams.
The Incident
“I can’t hear you! I’m in the water!” he exclaimed to the dispatcher, outlining his precarious situation. “I’m in the middle of Lake Harney!”
Response and Rescue
The dispatcher quickly assessed the situation and encouraged Watson to remain afloat while help was on the way. While emergency responders were mobilizing, two fellow fishermen, Billy McClure and another passerby, noticed Watson struggling and promptly launched a rescue operation.
Upon reaching Watson, McClure confirmed to the dispatcher, “We have him rescued. I have him on my boat.” This swift action meant Watson was no longer at risk of hypothermia as emergency personnel worked diligently to get him back to safety.
Aftermath
Following the rescue, Watson was transported via airboat to shore and subsequently taken to a local hospital. He reported experiencing symptoms of hypothermia but expressed profound gratitude for his survival. “From calling 911 to waking up in the hospital, everything else was a blur. I’m truly blessed by God,” he stated.
