CLOUD, Fla. (WESH) – A St. Cloud man has been arrested after police say he shot and killed his fiancee after an argument early Sunday morning.
The St. Cloud Police Department said officers were dispatched to a residence on Western Sun Drive shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday in reference to a shooting.
Officers made contact with 57-year-old Timothy Hyder and later found his fiancee, Natalie Dumy, dead in the backyard of the home.
Haider was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Police said he is cooperating with detectives.
Police said a handgun was visible on the kitchen counter in the home.
“Our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time,” said St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke. “If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, there are resources to support you. Contact a trusted friend, family member, or local domestic violence hotline. You are not alone.”
Dr. Laura Streefeller, a therapist and domestic violence expert, said the national hotline is a helpful resource and having a trusted family member or friend by your side can be a big help.
“We don’t know anything about this specific situation, whether the relationship ended and she intended to leave,” Dr. Strefler said. “But what we can say statistically is that more than 75 percent of murdered victims are killed while leaving. So having a safety plan is very important.”
The National Domestic Violence Hotline can be reached anytime at 1-800-799-7233. Help Now in Osceola can be reached 24 hours a day at 407-847-8562.
