Florida Man Charged With Posing As Federal Agent After Being

NAPLES, Fla. (WBBH) – A Cape Coral man was arrested on suspicion of posing as a federal agent during a Florida Highway Patrol traffic stop in Naples on New Year’s Day.

Jorge Alberto Alfonso, 61, is facing multiple charges after his arrest on Wednesday.

According to the arrest report, the officer was sitting in his patrol car in the median of Interstate 75, monitoring northbound traffic, when a white truck with red and blue emergency lights drove by.

Police said the truck did not appear to be a law enforcement vehicle, as a woman in the passenger seat was reportedly waving her arms in distress.

The truck’s bed was open and contained a pink backpack and suitcase, the report said. Officers said they checked the license plate and determined the vehicle was registered to Alfonso.

The officers said they approached the truck and began to explain why the truck had stopped them when they interrupted, claiming the truck had accidentally turned on its lights.

According to the arrest report, Alfonso identified himself as a federal employee and gave the officers a CIA counterterrorism unit ID, CIA emblem coins in his badge wallet, and an MI-6 ID.

When the officers asked Alfonso what government agency he worked for, he reportedly simply replied, “The federal government.”

Troopers said the truck was equipped with red and blue emergency lights, a front light bar, a dashboard radio, a rear light bar and a siren control box.

Officers checked Alfonso’s identification, which they said was suspicious.

In his ID photo, Alfonso was wearing a skullcap, which is prohibited on law enforcement IDs, according to the arrest report.

Officers said the format and design did not match other federal IDs, and Alfonso provided an oversized coin in lieu of a badge.

Alfonso was arrested on suspicion of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

After the truck was towed, officers said they found firearms, passports, federal badges, bulletproof vests, pills in unlabeled bottles, cash and jewelry.

Alfonso was taken to the Collier County Jail and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and possession of a harmful drug without a prescription.
