He warned, “This is just going to exacerbate worker shortages. It’s going to make our communities less safe, because people are going to be afraid to report crime.”
Reports indicate that targeted raids were conducted in several locations, including Tampa and Homestead, affecting both residential areas and workplaces. Kennedy highlighted fears about the implications for community safety and trust in law enforcement.

From January to mid-April, the county logged over 800 individuals booked with an ICE detainer, of which 259 were not facing any local charges. As of the latest updates, there are currently 203 inmates in custody with ICE detainers, with 25 of those lacking local charges.
During a recent Orange County Board of Commissioners meeting, Jail Chief Louis Quiñones explained the protocols surrounding inmates with immigration warrants, noting that they can be held for up to 72 hours while awaiting transfer to federal facilities. “Yesterday alone they brought in 20 inmates that had no local charges,” he stated, indicating heightened ICE activity in Central Florida.
