'fix The (expletive) Elevator': Residents Of Miami Apartment Complex Vent

(WSVN) – Apartment residents are fed up and speaking out about poor living conditions.

7’s Karen Hensel investigates the situation at this apartment.

Miami’s Modera Schuyler Building promotes its apartments as “chic, modern, and sophisticated” and encourages people to “embrace the art of living in Miami.” But some residents here don’t necessarily accept that.

Chloe Morgan’s Instagram video: “There’s pee and poop in the common areas every day.”

Inspired by the growing frustration, they turned to social media and 7Investigates.

Rachel Wells, resident: “Even my family and friends were like, ‘Do I live here?’ Do I really feel like I live here? Am I going to call this my home? ?”

Rachel Wells and other residents have documented cockroaches, people sleeping outside their front doors and filthy conditions inside and outside.

Rachel Wells: “Litter is a huge problem.”

But the biggest safety concern is that the elevator is broken.

Rachel Wells: “This is crazy. Exactly how I wanted to start my day.”

This is Rachel in a walking boot due to torn ligaments and broken bones. So when the elevator stops, she has to walk down the stairs from her 15th floor apartment.

A nail can be seen sticking out of one of the stairs, which could cause someone to trip.

Rachel Wells: “I’m anxious every day. I’m stressed out every morning because I don’t know if the elevator is actually going to work. And just like I was carried down the stairs on the day this incident happened. Several residents said they too had to be carried down the stairs.

Residents were reportedly trapped in elevators and had to call 911. In fact, Miami Fire Rescue told 7Investigate they have responded to elevator calls here 24 times since January alone.

Resident Chloe Morgan: “It’s really difficult to live here when the elevators are always down and the stairwells aren’t clean or safe.”

Chloe Morgan, a resident who posted an Instagram video shared by Only in Dade, said she complained to building management but nothing was done.

Chloe Morgan: “I am frustrated that my concerns have not been resolved and my emails have not been answered.”

Other residents showed their displeasure by writing a profane message on the stairwell door that read, “(expletive) elevator (expletive) manager and (expletive) fix you.”

And the advertised “amazing rooftop pool and hot tub”, but it actually looked like this in December with the greenery.

Instagram video: “Pool and deck still closed.”

Now I can’t even access it.

Rachel Wells: “They shut the door, locked it and bolted it on December 4th and didn’t say anything to anyone.”

Karen Hensel: “So you’re paying for a pool and amenities that you can’t use?”

Rachel Wells: “That’s right.”

Fed up, Rachel emailed city officials. Miami Code Compliance earlier this month charged the violation with “failure to maintain property.”

Rachel Wells: “In Miami itself, we’re held to the highest standards, like, ‘Oh, we have the rich and famous.’ We have all these wonderful amenities, like an infinity pool. “And just like in Modera they kept all the pictures the same, they’re actually selling a lie, so people are still moving in.” ”

Karen Hensel: “I’m Karen Hensel with 7News.”

We took our residents’ concerns to Modera Schuyler’s office and were immediately told to leave.

So we contacted Mill Creek Residential in Boca Raton, the management company’s South Florida headquarters. They still haven’t responded to our calls or emails.
