(AP) — In a strategic move to strengthen their quarterback roster, the Miami Dolphins have reportedly signed former New York Jets first-round draft pick Zach Wilson to a one-year contract. According to an insider familiar with the deal, Wilson’s contract guarantees him $6 million.

Drafted second overall by the Jets in 2021, Wilson has experienced a tumultuous journey in the NFL. After three seasons, where he held the starting position for the majority of the time, his tenure in New York was characterized by both promise and challenges. He accumulated a record of 12 wins and 21 losses as a starter, throwing for 6,293 yards, rushing for 498 yards, and achieving a completion rate of 57 percent, accompanied by 23 touchdown passes and 25 interceptions.
Last season, Wilson served as a backup quarterback in Denver but did not get the opportunity to take the field.

The Dolphins have been actively seeking a reliable backup to Tua Tagovailoa, especially after he missed six games due to injuries in the previous season, which included a third diagnosed concussion within two years. Miami’s backup options in 2024, which included Skylar Thompson, Tim Boyle, and Tyler Huntley, struggled for consistency. Notably, Huntley started five games for the team but only managed a 2-3 record.
