Celebrating Cuban Heritage

Prepare to immerse yourself in the vivid intersection of history, art, and music this coming weekend at Cuba Nostalgia, hosted at the Miami-Dade County Fairgrounds on May 17-18, 2025. This vibrant festival aims to transport attendees into the heart of Cuban culture, prompting them to discover the island’s rich traditions and flavors.

A Taste of Cuba

Cuban cuisine will take center stage at the event, offering a delectable range of dishes. Guests can indulge in:

• Pan con lechon
• Arroz campesino
• Chicharrón
• Refreshing cocktails including mojitos and Cuba libres

As noted by Peter Regalado, a key organizer, “We want people to, for one weekend at least, since we’re away from our land, to enjoy what the Cuban culture is all about.”

Historic Exhibits

An exciting feature of this year’s event is a replica of the original house of José Martí, an esteemed Cuban figure. Built in 1810, the replica offers a unique photo opportunity and a glimpse into Cuban history.

Musical Performances

The festival promises electrifying musical performances, featuring a variety of genres reflective of Cuba’s rich musical heritage. Among the entertainers is Orlando Mendez, also known as the “Cuban Cowboy,” who plans to blend country music with Cuban influences. “I’m super excited, obviously,” Mendez expressed, adding, “it’s an honor” to perform at a festival his family has attended for years.

Fans can also expect a special surprise as he shares his talents in Spanish for a performance not often showcased.

A Weekend of Cultural Connection

Cuba Nostalgia aims to offer an enriching experience, fostering cultural connection and appreciation. “It’s a weekend to enjoy our culture, and we want to share it with everyone,” Regalado emphasized.

Special Commemorations

Additionally, the event will honor the legendary Cuban artist Celia Cruz, celebrating what would have been her 100th birthday with the distribution of commemorative coins.
