Cello, am I the one you’re looking for? You can see it in your eyes. Ian Maxin brings the sound of the cello to SoFlo to create one-man orchestral concerts.
There’s nothing like the soothing sound of a large orchestra. Well, you might be able to do it with one instrument.
Cellist Ian Maxin: “If you close your eyes, it sounds like there’s probably 30 or 40 people playing at the same time.”
Because Ian Maxine creates a big band atmosphere with his first love.
Ian Maxin: “I play the cello, sing in 37 languages, use a lot of electronics to make myself sound like an entire symphony orchestra, and clone myself in real time. I first heard it when I was 6 years old and fell in love with its sound.
The sound can be rocky.
Ian Maxine: “Very often it sounds like a guitar. I come from a rock and roll background and also studied classical music, so sometimes it sounds like a rock guitar, or sometimes it sounds like a distortion guitar. It’s a very soulful sound.
And the inspiration for his musical creation is the world.
Ian Maxine: “My inspiration comes from traveling around the world, from Central Asia to South America, the Middle East, Europe and the Balkans, with a bit of folk music in there. We do what we call jam sessions. I learn from them about their music, about their songs, about their hometown songs, and then I bring those songs to the tour. I’m here.”
Ian’s Winter Tour visits Florida next week
Ian Maxin: “I’m really looking forward to bringing my music to Florida. I love Florida. I feel like I’ve gotten a lot of great vibes. For me, it’s a journey. I’ve been to Florida almost every day. We travel all year round and perform around 200 concerts a year in many countries around the world, and we believe this brings people together on a very deep level.”
