Lauderhill Man Arrested After Kidnapping and Multi-County Police Chase
A 36-year-old man from Lauderhill, identified as Michael Anthony McNeal, has been apprehended following a harrowing incident that began with the alleged kidnapping of a woman and her two young children in Margate, Florida.
Details of the Incident
The series of events unfolded on March 3, when McNeal reportedly forced his way into the victim’s residence in Margate. It is alleged that he threatened the mother with violence, demanding she accompany him along with her children as he drove towards Ocala.
Pursuit and Arrest
Law enforcement became alerted to the situation after the vehicle was identified as stolen. Authorities from St. Johns County initiated a vehicle pursuit that later progressed into Putnam County along U.S. 17. The chase concluded when McNeal’s vehicle crashed on Comfort Road.
Following the crash, McNeal attempt to escape on foot but was swiftly detained by a collaborative effort involving deputies from both Putnam and St. Johns counties, as well as officers from the Palatka Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol.
Victims Rescued
Upon their recovery, the mother exhibited visible signs of physical assault, including injuries from beating and choking. Fortunately, both she and her children were safely secured at the scene.
Legal Consequences
McNeal has been charged with multiple offenses, including kidnapping, child neglect without great bodily harm, violation of a domestic violence injunction, as well as charges of fleeing and eluding law enforcement. His bond has been set at $135,500 and he is currently housed at the Putnam County Jail.
