Broward Heart Walk Draws Thousands to Davie
This past weekend, Davie, Florida, saw an impressive turnout for the American Heart Association’s Broward Heart Walk, an event that highlighted the importance of heart health. The walk commenced at Nova Southeastern University, welcoming over 3,000 participants, including heart disease survivors and their supporters, all united by a common cause.
Empowering Messages from Participants
Among the participants was Macy Curtis, who shared her personal journey after receiving a pacemaker. She emphasized the significance of self-advocacy, stating, “Always be your own advocate, and always stick up for yourself, and know your body. You know your body more than anybody.”
Support from Local Organizations
The event featured contributions from various local businesses, which raised funds for the American Heart Association. Notably, Rick Case Automotive Group and City Furniture played a significant role in the fundraising efforts.
Ryan Case from Rick Case Automotive Group expressed their commitment, stating, “[We’re helping] the American Heart Association to ensure lives [are] saved for everybody,” adding that they plan to donate 750 CPR lifesaving kits over the next three years.
Similarly, Andrew Koenig, CEO of City Furniture, highlighted the importance of the event, saying, “[I’m here] to help the American Heart Association, fundraise for an amazing cause, drive some awareness for really important causes like just how to do CPR and, really, just getting everybody together to raise some money and save some lives.”

The Chair for the Broward Heart Walk, Leah Carpenter, articulated the central mission of the event: “It’s about encouraging healthy eating, healthy living, so that we can have stronger hearts.”
