BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A Palm Beach woman was suffering some holiday heartache after the Grinch stole her Christmas decorations, but a police officer went above and beyond with a holiday surprise.
Boynton Beach Police Department officers were captured on officer-worn body camera video showing up at Maryse Bracey’s home on Nov. 29.
“It’s Officer Cox and Officer Coppini again. We just wanted to check in and make sure everything is going well for you guys,” one of the officers told Bracey. “Has anything changed?”
“Nothing has changed,” Bracey said.
“Okay,” the officer said.
“Thank you,” Bracey said.
“Well, we were disappointed in what happened,” the officer said.
Bracey said Christmas decorations were stolen from her yard a few days before Thanksgiving.
“(The thief) came right through my gate and jumped over my gate with his hoodie on. I was still – my jewelry was still shining, so He unplugged it, threw it, and he jumped over and picked it up and kept moving,” she said.
Bracey said the thief returned shortly afterward and stole other jewelry.
“I was angry. I ran around the circle and went running around the neighborhood,” she said. “It was too late then, but still. But anyway, it’s gone.”
Bracey said she understands they are just decorations, but they mean a lot to her.
“When I look at their images or my images, I see it as something unique, but that’s who I am. That’s why I bought them,” she said.
Depressed by the ordeal, she had no idea what would happen next.
“So I brought a little something, okay? I brought a little gift,” said one of the officers who visited Bracey.
“What?” Bracey said.
“I got another medal,” the officer said.
“He said, ‘I brought you something.'” He thought he could get the guy. I said, “Okay.” He said, “I received (the medal).” I said, ‘No, you don’t have to do that,”’ Bracey said.
“It won’t be as nice as the one you had, but you can’t go the whole Christmas season without decorations,” the officer said.
The officers surprised Bracey with new decorations.
“I can’t believe you guys,” Bracey told officers.
“Of course, please. I think it’s a snowman,” the officer said.
“When I see snowmen, I think of them,” Bracey said.
Boynton Beach police are continuing to search for the person who stole Bracey’s medal.
