Florida Panthers Clinch Fifth Straight Victory over Blue Jackets
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — The Florida Panthers continued their strong performance this season with a decisive 3-0 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night, showcasing the skills of goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.
Bobrovsky’s Career Milestone
In this match, Bobrovsky recorded his second shutout in just four games and his fourth overall this season. With this win, the seasoned goalie achieved his 423rd career victory, which ties him with NHL legend Tony Esposito for 10th place on the all-time wins list, accomplishing this feat in 742 games—144 fewer than Esposito required.
Goals and Key Performances
Aleksander Barkov was instrumental in the victory, providing assists on the first two goals and finishing the game with an empty-net goal. Sam Reinhart and Mackie Samoskevich both contributed significantly, with Reinhart scoring the first goal of the match and adding another assist, while Samoskevich netted the second goal, aided by a rebound from a shot initially saved by Blue Jackets’ goaltender Elvis Merzlikins, who stopped 33 shots throughout the game.
Both of Florida’s initial goals came from power play opportunities, with Reinhart’s goal occurring in the first period and Samoskevich’s in the second. The Panthers maintained an aggressive offensive approach, outshooting their opponents 36-16.
Current Standings and Outlook
The Panthers currently lead the Atlantic Division and have triumphed in 10 of their last 12 games, with Bobrovsky being the starting netminder for seven of those victories. Meanwhile, the Columbus Blue Jackets remain competitive in the playoff race but have a record of 5-4-1 in their last ten games.
Looking ahead, the Blue Jackets are set to face the New York Rangers, while the Panthers will host the Buffalo Sabres this coming Saturday.
