WASHINGTON (AP) – President Joe Biden will visit New Orleans next week, a city still reeling from a deadly New Year’s rampage in which an Army veteran rammed a truck into revelers.
The White House announced that the president and first lady will visit New Orleans on Monday to “grieve with the families and community members affected by the tragic attack.”
The attack killed 14 people. The driver, identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, an American citizen from Texas, was later killed during a gunfight with police.
Biden said Thursday that he has directed the investigation into the attack to “accelerate.” He also praised the spirit of the people of New Orleans.
After visiting Louisiana, Biden will head to California on Tuesday to attend an event in Los Angeles.
