In an impressive feat of photography, Steve Haining recently set a Guinness World Record for the deepest underwater photo shoot, diving to a depth of 163.4 feet off Pompano Beach, Florida. An Ambitious Attempt

Taking a page from Haining’s success, television personality Alex Miranda attempted to replicate this extraordinary underwater shoot. However, he found early challenges when his first attempt did not go as planned. With great determination, Miranda enlisted Haining’s professional guidance for a second try in a South Florida pool.

The Underwater Experience

During the preparation, Miranda donned a wetsuit and equipped himself with the necessary gear, including the professional camera setup used by Haining in his record-breaking shoot. “The camera is a normal camera inside a box equipped with operational controls,” Haining explained as he demonstrated the setup to Miranda.

As they began the shoot, technical issues arose, including a malfunctioning GoPro camera, which added to the adventure. Haining remarked, “The deeper you go, the more pressure affects you, including cognitive functions.” This complexity illustrates the skill required in underwater photography, where planning and preparation are essential for success.

Tips for Aspiring Underwater Photographers

During their underwater escapade, Miranda received valuable tips from Haining on posing and handling the camera. One advice highlighted was to wear sunglasses while submerged to prevent discomfort, as the camera may not effectively capture eye expressions if they are closed. Haining also emphasized the importance of preparing a plan before diving since communication becomes challenging once underwater.
