FORT LAUDERDALE HOLLYWOOD INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, Fla. (WSVN) – More than 3 million people are expected to take to the roads and skies in the coming weeks, setting another year-end holiday travel record.
AAA predicts that a record number of people will travel more than 50 miles between Saturday, December 21st and Wednesday, January 1st, nearly 120 million people to be exact.
More than 7.85 million people are scheduled to fly home this holiday season, an increase of about 300,000 from last year.
Airfares for the holiday season rose about 4% compared to last year, according to AAA. The average domestic ticket costs over $800.
The vast majority of travelers will be forced to crawl through traffic jams.
According to AAA, 107 million people are expected to drive to their vacation destinations, which is higher than last year’s record but slightly lower than 2019’s record of 108 million. That’s what it means.
Gasoline prices are expected to fall below $3 a gallon across the United States ahead of Christmas week, the first time this has happened since 2021.
South Florida is a popular Christmas and New Year’s destination, so locals are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid traffic troubles.
