(WSVN) – AAA will launch a free “Tow to Go” service Wednesday night aimed at keeping impaired drivers off the roads during the busy Thanksgiving weekend.
Operating hours are December 2nd from 6pm to 6am.
The program, which has been around for more than 25 years, confidentially transports one person and their vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius. It is available to both AAA members and non-members and is offered as a last resort for those who did not plan ahead.
“Tow-to-gos serve as the last line of defense to keep impaired drivers off the road,” said AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins. “If you plan on consuming alcohol or drugs this weekend, please first make a plan to get home safely. If your plan doesn’t work, call AAA and we will take you to a safe location. .”
The service comes as AAA anticipates record Thanksgiving travel, with an estimated 71.7 million Americans traveling.
More than 830 people died in crashes involving impaired drivers during the Thanksgiving holiday from 2017 to 2021, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
For assistance, please call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO.
AAA reminds travelers to plan ahead to arrange a designated driver, as Tow to Go cannot be booked in advance and may not be available in rural areas or during inclement weather.
