A Man Was Shot To Death While Standing In The

WILTON MANORS, Fla. (WSVN) – Things took a surprising and tragic turn for a Fort Lauderdale couple when a man was shot and killed in his boyfriend’s backyard shortly after a midnight seizure on New Year’s Day, according to police.

In an interview with 7News on Friday, Chris Dillon said he didn’t expect his girlfriend Angel Nunez to show up before 12 a.m. Tuesday.

“At 11:58, you hear (a beep and someone enters a door code), and only one (other) person knows that code,” Dillon said. . “My heart soared. I knew he was coming back, but I didn’t know what time it was, whether it was 1 o’clock or 2 o’clock. I didn’t know.”

Dillon said when the clock struck 12, Nunez wanted to make sure he wasn’t there.

“He said, ‘And I wasn’t going to leave you alone for a New Year’s kiss,'” Dillon said, fighting back tears.

The couple headed to Dillon’s backyard and shared their first kiss of 2025.

“Hey, if I didn’t love this guy before, I definitely love him (now). What a sweet kid. He’s always been a sweet guy,” Dillon said. spoke.

But then Dillon said he saw Frass and Nunez fell to the ground. For a moment, he thought he had been hit by a piece of fireworks.

“And I bent over and said, ‘Angel, angel, angel, what’s going on?'” I gave him a little slap, a hug, a kiss, and I said, ‘Hey, come on. , come on, come on,’ and I shook him,” he said. “I thought maybe he passed out, like a rocket hit him and scared him. I don’t know.”

It wasn’t a firework, but a bullet that pierced Nunez’s side. He didn’t survive.

As of Friday night, Fort Lauderdale police said they did not know where the bullet came from. One theory is that it was a celebratory arson.

“I don’t understand how we as a culture think it’s fun to shoot guns in the air and yell, ‘Everybody get out,’ or whatever. I don’t get it,” Dillon said.

Dillon had known loss before. He lost his husband and sister, and now, at the dawn of 2025, he grapples with this senseless loss.

“(Angel) was probably the kindest person I’ve ever known and loved helping people,” he said. “It’s mind-boggling. This is unnecessary because (the celebratory shooting) killed a 10-year-old and killed my boyfriend.”

Nunes was 50 years old. He leaves behind two adult daughters.

Dillon said her boyfriend was very close to her mother, so her mother called her to wish her a Happy New Year the moment she collapsed.
