ESTERO, Fla. (WBBH) — A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a woman with a machete after a street assault.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday around 5 p.m., the suspect followed the victim for several blocks on Route 41. The victim headed toward Rapallo Drive and Villagio Parkways.
Both men got out of the car, according to reports. A cell phone was in the victim’s hand. The suspect had a machete. He then approached the victim and pointed the gun at her. The victim screamed. The suspect then returned to the Jeep and drove away.
Once deputies arrived, the victim was able to give deputies information about the suspect and his vehicle. They were able to quickly locate him and identify him as Philip Semijuwski. He is currently facing assault with a deadly weapon.
Anna Hill, a registered mental health counseling intern at Sunshine State Counseling Center, said street violence is a big problem in Florida. “I think the crux of this issue is that we’re in a hurry,” Hill said. “And road rage is a kind of control mechanism, so that person can try to get to their destination faster. It’s a way of dealing with the need to be somewhere at the required time. .”
Hill points out that seizures don’t make you go faster, and you don’t know who you’re driving next to, so if something irritates you on the road, you can just let it go.
“It’s OK to be late. It will be resolved. It’s not worth risking your life or risking the lives of others,” Hill said.
