The Crew-10 mission featured a SpaceX Dragon capsule atop a Falcon 9 rocket, transporting four astronauts: NASA’s Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, Takuya Onishi from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, and Kirill Peskov from Roscosmos. The launch paves the way for the crew to dock with the ISS approximately at 11:30 p.m. ET Saturday, where they will engage in a handover period with the outgoing Crew-9 members, including NASA’s Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore, who have been stationed onboard since June.

Initially, NASA planned for Crew-9 to return as early as Sunday. However, their departure is contingent upon the successful arrival of the Crew-10 mission. Their return had been postponed following a launch attempt that was canceled due to ground system issues. The return of Williams and Wilmore, along with their Crew-9 companions—NASA’s Nick Hague and Roscosmos’ Aleksandr Gorbunov—is now targeted for March 19, provided all operations proceed as scheduled.

Both SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and former President Donald Trump have suggested that the Biden administration neglected to facilitate an earlier return for the astronauts.
