Community Rallies to Find Owner of Lost Pig in Florida
Near Fort Myers, Florida, a small brown pig has captured the hearts of local residents after being discovered lost in a backyard. The domesticated pig, affectionately named “Oink” by neighborhood kids, is now the subject of a community effort aimed at reuniting him with his owner.
Discovery of the Pig
The adventurous pig was first spotted by local resident Valentine Antal while she was picking up her children from school. Antal noticed the pig wandering in the middle of the street while backing up her golf cart.
“I stopped to talk to Courtney for a minute, and when I went to go take off, I looked up, and there was a pig wandering in the middle of the street,” Antal remarked.
Immediate Community Response
Antal, along with her neighbor Courtney Siegel, quickly recognized that the pig seemed domesticated and comfortable around people. Siegel noted that when she filled a container with water, the pig immediately approached, hinting at its familiarity with human care: “It obviously was like, okay, it’s familiar with this.”
The pig soon became a favorite among neighborhood children, receiving numerous belly rubs and attention from excited kids who played with him. Eight-year-old Christian Antal expressed his delight: “I found it. I was really excited, and I had a great time with it. I played with it and loved it, and at the end of the day, we named him Oink.”
Authorities Step In
Concerned for the pig’s safety, Lee County deputies arrived on the scene to take Oink into custody. They indicated they would care for the pig for a period of 12 to 15 days while waiting for any potential owner to come forward. If no owner is found within that timeframe, the pig will be put up for auction.
Community Calls for Action
The neighborhood is now banding together to help bring Oink back to his rightful home. Local residents are optimistic that the pig’s owner will reveal themselves soon, highlighting how pets can form connections with their community. As Oink continues to garner affection from those around him, the hope remains strong for a joyful reunion.
