Miami Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra Hosts 5k To Benefit Nicklaus

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) – Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra combined fitness with philanthropy at the inaugural Coach Spo 5K in Coral Gables.

“We wanted to build it around activity and a healthy lifestyle,” Spoelstra said.

The event welcomed participants of all ages, including young Heat fans, to run, walk or simply participate in charity work.

“This is something I’ve wanted to do for several years and finally decided to do it this year in partnership with the Miami Heat Foundation,” Spoelstra said.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, which provides pediatric treatment for a variety of illnesses, including cancer.

“It’s amazing. They’re angels sent from heaven and I’ve been really inspired by what they do,” Spoelstra said.

The hospital provides life-saving treatment regardless of a family’s ability to pay, ensuring that all children receive the care they need.

Spoelstra’s efforts aim to increase awareness and funds to support the patients and families hospitals serve.

“The entire campus is built around making miracles happen,” Spoelstra said. “Families out there, you can never underestimate the human spirit, and I think this is a day that will touch your hearts, and we can all use a little bit of that. ”
