WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPBF) — West Palm Beach police have arrested a 21-year-old driver who nearly hit an officer, crashed into two patrol cars and had a gun strapped to his waistband.
On Saturday afternoon, police stopped Jaylene Tyree Lewis at Spruce Avenue and 20th Street for running a stop sign.
Upon questioning, Lewis admitted that he did not have a license. Police noticed a gun strapped around his waistband as he fidgeted in his seat.
Lewis refused to get out of the car and slammed the door at the officer. Lewis then took off, nearly hitting another police officer who had arrived at the scene.
Lewis panicked, crashed into two police cars and fled north on Spruce Street.
Later that afternoon, police found Lewis’ gray Nissan in the 400 block of Lilac Court.
Shortly afterward, Lewis was arrested as he emerged from a nearby apartment.
Lewis faces several felonies, including aggravated assault on a police officer, aggravated fleeing or eluding police, and carrying a concealed firearm during the commission of a felony.
Lewis also received several citations for reckless driving, driving without a license, failing to stop at a stop sign and leaving the scene of an accident with damage.
