FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) – A SWAT standoff outside a Fort Lauderdale apartment building left residents in chaos for hours throughout the night, with some unable to return to their homes until Friday morning.
The standoff began around midnight at 1777 Dixie Highway, just west of Middle River Elementary School.
According to residents, one person barricaded himself in the apartment.
SWAT personnel deployed K-9 units, drones and flash bangs during the operation, which ended around 5 a.m.
“They were flying drones over the area as well as over the area, so it was definitely something,” resident Niro Sadback said. “I first left the apartment around 11:04 p.m., but now it’s past 2 a.m. and I still haven’t been able to come back.”
By 7 a.m. residents were allowed to return to their homes.
Officials have not released additional details.
