President Joe Biden commuted the prison sentence of notorious University of Miami booster and convicted pyramid scheme fraudster Nevin Shapiro. Nevin Shapiro previously admitted to illegally providing expensive gifts to players.
Among the roughly 1,500 people President Joe Biden pardoned on Thursday was Nevin Shapiro, 55, who was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison in 2011.
It’s unclear whether the president specifically singled out Shapiro and his case, but he is one of thousands of people who have been serving the remainder of their terms under house arrest since 2020 to prevent the spread of the coronavirus during the pandemic. He was one of the
Biden granted clemency consisting of 39 pardons and 1,499 commutations, a single-day record for any president in history.
