MIAMI (WSVN) – Organizations across South Florida are celebrating the holiday season with special visits to families across the region.
Santa Claus and his collaborators left Miami Dade College’s North Campus Saturday morning and made several stops throughout South Florida. A dazzling parade filled with marching bands, treats, arts and crafts, rides and entertainment entertained revelers.
South Floridians got into the holiday spirit by spreading joy and bringing gifts to children in the community. Some people brought in new toys to give to children in the community.
In Miami Gardens, volunteers from His House Children’s Home spent the morning decorating homes to brighten up the days leading up to Christmas.
“They have all these volunteers decorating vacation cottages and homes, and it just brightens the lives of the people who live here,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniela Levin Cava.
More than 200 volunteers created a magical Christmas village, baking cookies, decorating Christmas trees, and setting up Christmas lights.
Sylvia Smith Torres, executive director of His House Children’s Home, said, “This allows children to have the whole community around them and understand that they are very loved.” I can do that,” he said. “This is the healing and hope our children need.”
In Pompano Beach, Goodyear joined in the festivities by unveiling the Goodyear Blimp decorated with Christmas lights.
The crew invited those inside for a tour and answered their questions. The U.S. Marine Corps collected toys and delivered them to boys and girls in the area.
“They’re really excited to see the airship and they’re all impressed by the size of this airship,” said Edwin Almanzar, the airship’s co-pilot. “Typically, we collect nearly 30,000 toys across our U.S. locations. We love giving back to the community, and this is one of the few ways we do it.”
2024 marks the 14th year that Goodyear has hosted a toy drive with the U.S. Marine Corps.
