DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) – Three dogs were killed and one person was hospitalized after a Davie mobile home went up in flames early Friday morning.
Crews responded to the home on Southwest 8th Avenue and Southwest 132nd Street around 4:30 a.m.
Flames were seen coming from the house and thick smoke filled the air.
Crews worked to extinguish the fire in the morning.
Officials said the woman and her son were sleeping inside the home at the time of the fire.
One person was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but the other person is expected to be okay.
The homeowner said he owed his life to his dog, but unfortunately it did not survive the fire.
“The dog woke me up first, and then I heard a crackling sound, but I didn’t know what a crackling was. Then (…) someone made a sound like crackling paper. “It sounded like it was there,” she said. “And all of a sudden, all I smelled was smoke. And I said there’s smoke somewhere. I got up and went to the kitchen, and there was a fire burning. Then I said to Reggie, ‘There’s a fire.’ I yelled and he came out of the bathroom and we got out.
Aerial video from 7 Skyforce showed the house completely destroyed.
Surrounding units appear to be unaffected by the fire at this time.
The Red Cross has been contacted to assist the family.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
