Two People Hospitalized, Two Dead After Shooting On Hollywood Boulevard

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) – Two people are dead and two others were taken to the hospital after a shooting in Hollywood overnight, police said.

Hollywood Police Department units were called to the scene of the incident along the 2900 block of Hollywood Boulevard, near the corner with Jaycee Boulevard, early Sunday morning.

Video showed crime scene investigators working with flashlights and placing evidence markers.

Detectives said the shooting happened at Jaycee Hall around 1:30 a.m. during what was believed to be a baby shower.

“It wasn’t like there was a crazy party going on. It was just set up like a baby shower, so I don’t understand why someone would get caught in the shooting,” said Jaycee Hall’s manager. Debra Gronvold said.

Investigators said the shooting occurred in a grassy area next to the event’s parking lot.

“I heard gunshots outside and the next thing I knew, all the police were there. I think someone called in to report the gunshots,” Gronvold said.

Police arrived and found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

“One of the individuals succumbed to his injuries at the scene,” Hollywood Police Department spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi said.

Paramedics rushed the other three victims to Memorial Regional Hospital, where the second victim later died.

Authorities said the shooting occurred after an altercation.

“We don’t know if it was a friend or a guest of our client. They said, ‘No, we don’t know who that is,'” Gronvold said.

Several persons of interest have been identified, but no arrests had been made as of Sunday night.

“What we can say is we believe this is an isolated incident,” Bettineschi said.

Detectives said they were still looking for the culprit.

Detectives urge anyone with information regarding this investigation or the subject’s whereabouts to contact the Hollywood Police Department at 954-764-4357 (Help) or 954-967-4567 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-967-4567. 493-8477 (TIPS)).
